Everything You Never Knew About Laser Hair Removal

Have you ever wondered if laser hair removal really works as good as they say it does? I know I have. Imagine never having to shave again. That got me to wondering, is it as good as they say? How long does it last? Well, let's find out.

First of all, I wondered if laser hair removal works for everyone? Is it like a one size fits all, or are there factors that affect the outcome? The simple truth is, if you have dark hair and light skin you have the best chance of success. They are apparently designing some equipment to work on dark skinned, and light haired people. As far as I know, as of yet they are not having good results.

Apparently women with blonde or grey hair have been treated with a machine that uses intense pulsed light and radio frequency. I hear there has been some success, but they are reported to have only 50% of the success of other lasers.

That got me to wondering, how does this hair removal surgery work? Does it kill the hair, or how does it remove it? For starters, lasers kill the dark pigment in hair using pulsed light. But here's the thing, lasers can also target the dark pigment in skin, causing discoloration. This is why the ideal candidate is dark haired and light skinned.

That made me wonder how long it takes to get rid of the hair. Does it all get done at once, or do you have to keep going back? The simple truth is, one session won't do it all. Experts recommend that you have between four and six treatments (of the same area) to ensure a reduction in your hair growth of approximately 70 - 80%. But here's the thing, you have to wait at least four weeks in between. So for six treatments, it would take you a minimum of 24 weeks.

Now I began to wonder if it works at the same speed all over, or if different parts of your body reacted differently? The fact is different places react differently. The experts say you will never gain completely hairless skin, and you can go broke trying to get completely hairless. It is important to go into hair removal, whether laser hair removal or other types with realistic expectations. The easiest way to ensure this is to talk to your hair removal expert.

Let's face it, cost is an important element. Costs will vary based on a number of factors including where you live, which area you're getting hair removed from, and the facility you go to. A fair statement of the range is about $200 - $500 each session. Touch-ups if you decide to get them done usually go for around $100 - $150. It should be noted here that Experts recommend four to six treatments to obtain 70% reduction in hair growth. Therefore laser hair removal may not be considered cheap, but is still considered by many people to be money well spent.

When researching laser hair removal, it is important to remember that this is a medical procedure. It is in your best interest to check out the facility, and their reputation. If they have a number of unhappy customers, I would be wary. I also tend to be wary of facilities offering discounts and guarantees. I mean really there is no way to guarantee how the laser will react to each person. Laser hair removal isn't something you want to cut costs on.

Once you find a reputable facility it is a good idea to schedule a consultation. This gives you a chance to find out about the procedure, meet the practitioner and ask questions. Remember, the only stupid question is the one that isn't asked.

By now you're probably wondering if there's anything you need to do to prepare for a laser hair removal treatment. Well the answer is yes. You have to not shave for at least a week (that's not hard for me). The reason is that the laser requires about a quarter inch of hair growth to be effective. The other thing you need to do, well actually to not do is to not expose the area you're going to have treated to the sun. Remember lasers destroy the dark pigment in the hair, and sometimes in skin. Staying out of the sun will reduce your risk of getting burned.

It is reported that while laser hair removal is relatively pain free, it is said to feel like someone snapping a rubber band against your skin, that if you're unsure of the pain you should not take aspirin. Aspirin can cause bruising, and so many Experts recommend numbing cream if you feel you need something in case of pain. Remember these facilities are in business to make you happy. Don't be afraid to ask questions at your consultation. Also you should never have to sign a contract to get laser hair removal done. Happy hair removal.

Although these methods will remove the hair at the roots, the follicle remains viable and can still grow hair. Body Hair Laser Removal Just be prepared to do a little searching for the right spa to conduct you hair removal, and have fun with it. Although there is a laser involved, people having it done do not have to worry about the safety factor.
