Botox Cost Versus Botox Advantages

Are the benefits that can be derived from Botox treatments commensurate to Botox cost? Aside from being a cosmetic injection for the reduction of wrinkles, Botox is also used to treat axillary hyperhidrosis that externally applied agents can not adequately manage. For the treatment of select neurological disorders, such as blepharospasm, cervical dystonia, and strabismus, it is approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration. However, Botox is expensive.

The cost of something without value is not justifiable, while that of something with value is. Also, something that is without value to an individual could be valuable for another. A person's perception determines the value of anything, regardless of the intrinsic qualities of the thing under question. As a general rule, something that is useful to an individual is considered valuable while something that is useless is without value.

In the same way, the advantages to be derived from Botox treatment could be without value to one person but be of enormous value to another. Even after determining that Botox treatment advantages have value, there are different levels of value assigned to these advantages, depending on the individual's perception. What the individual expects from Botox treatments will affect how Botox cost is discerned.

Expectations need to be set at a proper level to determine the value of Botox treatments as well as the justifiability of Botox cost. Knowledge of what Botox can, and can not, do will help one know what to expect from Botox treatments. Since Botox is approved and used for wrinkle reduction, hyperhidrosis, and neurological disorders, the benefits it provides for the treatment of these cases need to be known.

For the reduction of wrinkles and facial lines, Botox is administered in a non-surgical procedure which takes only about ten minutes. Small amounts of Botox are injected into selected spots beneath wrinkled skin. The muscles at the injection sites then become immobile. Since wrinkles are caused by repetitive movements of the muscles, the immobility reduces the appearance of lines and creases on the skin. The effects of Botox treatments last up to four months and will be visible within a few days after receiving injections. There is a need to repeat the treatments as the effects wear off.

Botox can significantly reduce underarm sweating for at least 6 or 7 months. It does so by blocking nerve impulses that stimulate sweat glands. This is the reason why it is effective in the treatment of axillary hyperhidrosis. The procedure of administering Botox for this condition involves injecting it just beneath the skin on multiple spots of the affected underarm. Within four weeks after the injections, the effects will become noticeable. Again, the treatments will have to be repeated as the effects wear off.

Botox is also injected in the treatment of neurological disorders. Depending on the disorder and the muscles that are affected, the sites of injection and the amount of Botox used for each injection can vary. There may bruising at the injection site, as well as tenderness and slight pain after the administration of the injections. Relief from symptoms, which can last up to three months, will be experienced starting from within a range of 2 days to 2 weeks.

Since the effects of Botox for any of the conditions above last several months, the duration of effectiveness should be taken into account along with the intrinsic advantages to be derived from the treatments. If the effects Botox treatments and their duration is something that would be valuable in terms of being able to live a happier, more normal life, then Botox cost would certainly be "worth it".
